I've been in hibernation for over a week, so no posts. I fell ill while visiting my family (tried to unblock a drain and I guess I got something nasty from the dark recesses of Wanganui's pipes). Home now though and healthy again. Painting fingers are still unwell though it seems. A quick attempt at redesigning one of Scott Van's Spaceman Minis into a hand...

Pixels without faces, and pixels with faces. Can't make up my mind. Really, this doodle doesn't warrant the effort it takes to make such a decision, so you get both. edit: I deleted the with-faces version. Without it is.

It's a blah day. Some days all I feel like saying is Blah. Today was one such day, but alas it was also a day in which I was required to say a whole lot of other stuff. Stuff I didn't really want to say.

I don't need to say a single thing tomorrow, so it can be my blah only day.

Missed yesterdays painting because Rosie took me climbing for my bday, and I sorta forgot. Last night I dreamt about a colossal gator/croc thing attacking an island. I was hiding out amid hundreds of refugees. There was a military force herding us, and I gave my passport to an illegal immigrant with a young boy. I didn't think i'd have any problems getting through the checkpoint with Rosie. The monster was after my climbing harness which I'd hiden under a bed so the military wouldn't confiscate it.

Years ago I worked on some illos for a Roche Chlamydia/STI campaign. I don't think they ever used them. Perhaps my designs weren't perverse enough. Anyway, other than the tag line, today's illo holds no similarity to that campaign whatsover.

Atomic Jellyfish!

I had a dream last night in which I witnessed a mushroom cloud expanding like the explosion in the film Akira, but it was over the ocean. More like a very colourful dome than a cloud. It was the forebear to an alien invasion. Robotic pods were sent out, burrowing into the landscape. I hid in a rubbley cliffside with Rosie, near a tropical beach which was hit by the rim of the dome. We were near a pod, but it didn't seem perturbed by our presence, as though we were irrelevant, just harmless bugs. The dream became more involved as I went a bit commando and defied the invaders, but that's vague. So I decided to paint the dome/explosion, only I got a bit side tracked and made a blobby jellyfish type of thing instead.

Rosie and I went out last night to meet a friend we hadn't seen for years, and I realised how out-of-practice I am at consuming beverages. The Irish and Welsh pubs both get five gold stars and a silver oblong for atmosphere. Yummy Malaysian food didn't stop me feeling pretty grim this morning. Beautiful day today though.

Remembered my dreams today, but they were a bit boring, so painted some alien anemone kinda things. Blah.

I said a couple of days ago i'd post about eye poo. Well, I don't know much. I know I get occasional little deposits of it, not enough to be a hindrance. I knew a girl who used to have it caked over her eyes each morning. She had to have a warm flannel ready. She also had a box of 1.5 litre cokes under her bed going flat. She was told that flat coke's good for the belly. You didn't hear it here, and I don't condone drinking excessive amounts of coke. Ginger Bear is far superior. Anyway, Rheum, or eye snot, is the amassed crap that collects in your eyes. It's dumped there by a little helper dude the name of whom I can't recall. It's basically the same as bogeys, but in your eyes. For more revealing info you can read THIS on my other blog. Enjoy!

I'd like to wake up and illustrate my dreams, but for the last few mornings I haven't remembered them beyond just vague feelings. So, we have a small piece of driftwood on the windowsill in our loo. Here it is.

On the first day...

1 In the beginning I created the blog.

2 Now the blog was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the blog, and the spirit of eye poo was hovering over the darkness.

3 And I said, "Let there be a doodle," and there was a doodle.

4 I looked upon my creation and saw that it was crap, and I said "the doodle is crap", and it was so.

Anyway, eye poo is the stuff you find in the corner of your eyes in the morning. Not everyone has it every day, some have more than most, but I'm pretty sure everyone is aware of it's existence.

Every morning (that means weekdays, as mornings often don't exist in the weekends), from this day forth, I will spend one hour doodling nonsense before starting any real work. I won't check the post, make breakfast, wash my pits, or wipe the poo from my eyes until that one hour of spontaneous doodling is over. I'll post the results here no matter how rubbish they may be (case in point below). One page per day, not related to anything I'm working on, and made over one hour only.

I often find myself dawdling (Dawdle: To waste time by idling: dawdling the hours away) in the mornings. I check and recheck my mail, read on the loo for too long, daydream, sleep in, and worst of all... spend hours looking at the galleries and blogs of other, more productive, illustrators. So this is an attempt to kick start my day. Anyway, I'm procrastinating again, here's todays abysmal entry...
